Mawphanlur is a place of verdant scenery, with high altitude meadows surrounds by gorgeous lakes with lush green hillock. It is located in the West Khasi Hills approximately 75km from capital city of Shillong. As you can know that this place is run by the Mawphanlur Integrated Village Cooperative Society Ltd. Traveller's Nest is the only accommodation available there.

On 2nd of August, Our fellow friends and I started our journey from Guwahati at around 6:30am. We were very excited to travel as no one in our group were known to this destinations we were not families with the roads so we took help from the locals. If anyone wants to visit Mawphanlur, than one should remember i.e. Markasa – is a small village on the way to Nongstoin and the place where one need to get down for Mawphanlur. The roads are bumpy to the top of the hills (Mawphanlur),but you must see the beauty of the trail was amazing. We reached Mawphanlur at 1:00 pm. One will see the entry gate where you have to pay the entry fees Rs. 100 per person. It is truly a beautiful place with small cottages named after Drenly Na Cottage.

In the evening, a dusk approaches slowly, it is a magnificent sight to see the sunset. In the silence, all you can hear is the sound of the bells ringing from the collar of the cows and the sheep glazing on the top of the hillock. One Can enjoy the night view from cottage surrounds by the 7 lakes- a truly heaven. If you are lucky enough you will feel the rain drops at night time - the place proves the coinage "Scotland of the East" I must say that it is truly a place of serenity admist peace and tranquility. The meal was hot and home cooked. It was extremely cold after the sunset. There were only basic amenities in the room i.e. single heater, comfortable bed, lamp, water warmer (only induction). One can hardly get network so this is a place where one can go and spend some quality time.
