It is a three-tier waterfall with green forest presenting a beautiful backdrop. Tlai is a plunge pool with water with an unusual shade of green. Tlai falls is located in the East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya and its distance is approx. 75 km from Cherrapunji, Sohora.
The exotic waterfall that lies within the area of Nohkalikai waterfall downstream. The water creates a wonderful pattern. It has its own natural beauty that surrounds the fall. Gushing almost brutally on the rocks below, it roars, swollen with water. As water moves downstream, it erodes some parts of the rocks. The downstream falls with a fast flowing water to a deep rocky gorge. The feel of mist on ones face, the sight of the greenery - how can one resist chasing waterfalls. The waterfalls in Meghalaya are largely rain fed and one can see them in their full glory during monsoon time. I was lucky enough to find them brimming. After chasing for this scenic beauty I have found the intrigued waterfall that the story went with me.
When we were moving ahead to Nohkalikai Waterfall suddenly one of our team members suggested us to visit the hidden downstream of waterfall as he has already visited the previous years. We never thought that it will be a quite tough trek for us as we are not a hardcore trekker. When we Starts to trek to the downstream it was 3:45pm, we hear the sound of an owl and the birds chirping sounds.
There were pin drop silence, no proper footsteps and the spider web covered the foot path, the branches of bamboo trees were fallen apart. It involves an arduous trek throughout the forests, much more longer and more challenging trek. But when we reached the lowest point of the falls it forget the tiredness and the struggle we faced during the trek. It. was worth observing, one can feel the exotic vibe and an untouched fall. There you will also find the rocky stone with lots of pot holes surrounded by the trees. It was a beautiful experience at the same time it was a more challenging for us. After we enjoy the enthusiastic waterfall and taken some picture of this fall, we started to trek back to the top at 5.45 pm.
Tips for Tlai Falls : -
- If anyone wants to visit this fall then make sure take half day time to this trek.
- One should carry drinking water. It is very much necessary if you are thinking to trek to this amazing waterfall.
- 3-4 person is necessary to trek. Alone is not safety at all.
- For photographers, I must suggest it is the best panoramic view. Must visit at all cost.
