“An abode of cloud" known as Meghalaya. It has a magical existence in the form of nature beauty. Presented by the mountainous extension of Khasi, Garo, Jaintia hills. From the bustle of the city life, people search for the pure savour of nature, one can find everything in nature to its purest form. From the stream or river to the crystal clear water, the jewels of greenery, foggy to waterfall, bamboo tails to ancient root bridges are all treasures of Meghalaya.
There is a small village named as ‘ Mawkma' not many people are unknown to this destination . One Can glimse once that the nature has been provided. The village itself treasured the wealth of nature beauty around its outskirt and one doesn’t need to harm. On this exciting trip we intend to explore some of the waterfall during monsoon in order to fully experience.
Mawsawdong Falls
Mawsawdong falls is situated in East Khasi Hills, Cherrapunji. From Mawkma village it is 2.8 km. After 14 minutes’ drive we arrived at the entrance to our first destination called “Mawsawdong falls”. We got out of the car and our trek started. There one has to walk 15 minutes (232 steps). A proper foot path conveniently led to the top of Mawsawdong Falls. As we approached the top point, where one can glimpse the surrounding by sitting on the rocks. There is not a single waterfall but four. We also met some locals around fishing beside the fall and we continued over trek to the downstream of the river. It's a nature for human tendency to walk around at such kind of wonderful places. This is another beautiful destination to spend quality time. There are many unorganized rocks at bottom side, where, water gets accumulated. It is a great place as the nature beauty is enthralling.
Tips : -
- You can enter Mawsawdong falls- visiting time 9am to 5pm.
- Small toilet and shops where one can buy some snacks, cold drinks, water and beetle nuts.
- There you will find a small hut for resting.
Lyngksiar Falls
One of the precious fall of the Mawkma Village is Lyngksiar Waterfall which is a three tiered cascade. There is no sign board or direction anywhere; you have to do by yourself. There are two ways, topline and bottom line - Lyngksiar falls drops down forming small pools of water at each level. The second path led to the stairway directly to the waterfall.
One can enjoy by dipping the feet. The water flows over a vertical drops. People have a distinct relationship with waterfall - travelling to see them, exploring and knowing the facts. The pristine sparkling water gushing from imposing heights makes for a riveting sight.

- The entry gate opens at 9:30 to 10: 30 am
- There is a picnic spot where one can spent leisure time with the family and friends.
- Parking facilities inside the main point is available
- Small shops are available inside the parking zone.
Janailar Falls
The third destination of the day which is approximately 500 meters from Lyngksiar falls. We started down a narrow path which splits into two direction, one trails leading to the waterfall and one to the top enormous rocks .It flows over a rocky ledge forming a plunge of pool. The waterfall is perfect to get a view of this stunning natural wonder. Sprinkled with the lush greenery that surrounds the fall is the perfect get way to get a unique experience of being one with nature. This is a paradise for the travellers, nothing could be better treated than witnessing a gigantic waterfall in the lush green verdant forest. This is one such place which will teach you how to spent time with nature.
